Carter “YoungRoc” Mangan II, studied piano at a young age but traded the keyboard in for a guitar by age 13. He studied guitar under jazz musician Geary Moore for several years. He was accepted into the Jazz for Teens program (under the direction of jazz saxophonist Don Braden) in 2005 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center where he honed his skills. As a student at the Technical Career Center in Newark, NJ, YoungRoc studied music production under R&B artist CeCe Rogers. He later graduated from the Institute for Audio Research (IAR) in New York City where he studied music engineering and production.
Roc produces original R&B music and hip hop under Off The Roc, LLC. He does music production work for film and television and other media, including the Travel Channel’s Not Your Average Travel Guide, Oxygen Channel’s Bad Girls Club, Bad Girls Need Love, Too, MTV’s Real World and True Life, Keeping Up With The Kardashians on E! and countless other shows. YoungRoc also produced the theme song “R.U. Ready” for the Rutgers Knights football team for New Jersey’s State University which is chanted at their stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey. He recently completed three songs for the score of the feature film Gimme Shelter (2013) starring Vanessa Hudgens, Brendan Fraser, Rosario Dawson and James Earl Jones.
Roc has done pre/post production work with music producer Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot, Mr. Wonder (Mary J. Blige, Ciara,The Fugees), DJ Jayhood (Missy Elliot, Sharaya J) Hussein Fatal (Tupac’s group “The Outlawz”), Young Buck (G Unit), Taana Gardner, legendary jazz artist/ drummer Norman Connors and many other artists. He is currently a lead instructor, engineer and producer at Cobblestone Multimedia in Newark, NJ, and is a composer and audio/visual engineer for The Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. Roc is available for freelance production engagements.
